Republicans were always walking a tight line in the lead-up to the 2020 general election. Vague accusations of liberal electoral shenanigans had been a playbook standard since Trump’s Obama-era Tweets on the matter, and party bosses had little choice but to follow Trump’s lead in using elections security both to inspire American voters to support Republican law-and-order candidates and to preemptively defend against losses.
